Instagram Page of Right to Defence Designated as “Extremist Materials”
Dear readers,
On 1 August 2025, it became known that our project’s Instagram page had been designated as “extremist materials”. A year earlier, our website and Telegram channel had already been declared “extremist”.
It is clear that the authorities are attempting to restrict the dissemination of objective and “inconvenient” information, particularly regarding the current state of the Belarusian bar and the challenges faced by the legal profession.
What does the designation of our Instagram as “extremist materials” mean?
For the distribution, possession, production, or transfer of “extremist materials”, individuals may face administrative liability under Article 19.11 of the Administrative Code.
Which actions related to our resources are formally not punishable?
Visiting our resources without subscribing;
Mentioning our project without direct links;
Possessing and sharing the contents of our texts without direct links or attribution (provided that, in the authorities’ view, they do not contain elements of other alleged offences, such as “insulting government officials” or “inciting hatred”).
