The trial considering a criminal case against attorney Anastasia Lazarenko starts on May 2.
It became known that she was deprived of her defense since her attorney was called as a witness in the case and therefore could not proceed with representing her interests. According to human rights defenders, this happened shortly before the end of the investigation.
We remind you that she was detained on June 2, two days after her 40th birthday. First, a criminal case was initiated against her under Part 3 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code for "communicating data of law enforcement agents and judges to Telegram channels." Later she was also accused under Art. 203-1 of the Criminal Code (illegal actions with information concerning private life) and Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order). According to the investigation, the attorney allegedly organized an "unauthorized mass event" when she consulted individuals near the Okrestina temporary detention center in August 2020. The editorial team became aware that this counseling near the Okrestina facility was not mentioned when the charges were read out in court.
Anastasia has an elderly father and a 19-year-old son who has been suffering from Crohn's disease since he was 16 years old.
Judge Sviatlana Chiarapanava considers the attorney’s case.
